About

Hi! Let me introduce myself. My name is Martha, and I am the blogger here on The Practical Stitcher.

I have been sewing since I was nine years old. If I had to do the math, I’d say that gives me around 45+ years of experience with sewing.

My first adventure in learning to sew was through my mother who taught me how to hand sew, darn, and make simple repairs to clothing (a life skill!).

Later, when I was in middle school, my grandmother gave me an old Singer sewing machine. The kind that sewed without the use of electricity. Through this machine, she taught me the basics I needed to get started, but it was through my desire to know more that I was able to expand that knowledge into what I now know today.

The purpose of this blog is to show you, the reader, practical sewing knowledge that you can apply right away.

So many people have asked me to teach them how to use their machines, and this is going to be my goal with this blog. I will have articles and how-to advice on sewing, business, machine use, and so much more.

I hope that you will stick around to join in with the stitchery. I promise it will be fun!
